THE STORY

Hemp is one of the most powerful bioremediating plants on earth — capable of pulling heavy metals, radiation, and toxins from contaminated soil. It was used after Chernobyl. It thrives in depleted farmland. It grows without pesticides and returns nitrogen to the ground. And for nearly a century, it was illegal to grow.

KANEH Saga: Bioremediation documents the environmental case for industrial hemp — from the science of phytoremediation to the farmers, researchers, and activists who have been quietly building a case for the plant’s role in ecological recovery. The third chapter of the KANEH Saga makes the argument that the planet’s healing may have been criminalized alongside the plant.
